The Story Behind Feedlane

Simon

Hey, I'm Simon - software engineer and RSS enthusiast since the early days. I've been reading my news through feeds ever since Google Reader, and that hasn't changed to this day.

Why Build Another RSS Reader?

After Google Reader shut down, I used various services over the years. Some were okay, but none of them ever really felt like home. Sometimes it was the interface, sometimes missing features, sometimes a service just went in a direction that didn't fit the way I work.

At some point I thought: I'm a developer - why not just build my own?

From Side Project to Feedlane

It all started as a side project. What I initially built just for myself grew over time - and the hobby project became feedlane.app.

My goal has always been the same: An RSS reader that's fast, feels good to use, and lets me decide what I read. No algorithm, no distractions, just my feeds. Developed and hosted in Germany.

What Makes Feedlane Different

  • Speed first: Articles load instantly. Search results in milliseconds. No waiting.
  • Smart organization: Folders, smart reading lists with keyword rules, and powerful filters shape your reading experience.
  • Works everywhere: Responsive web interface plus Fever API compatibility use Feedlane with native apps like Reeder, NetNewsWire, or Unread.
  • Privacy focused: Your data stays on our servers. No tracking, no ads, no selling data.

Give It a Try

  1. Sign up for a free 30-day trial
  2. Add your first feed - just enter a website URL
  3. Import existing feeds via OPML if you're coming from another reader

Feedlane is still young and there's a lot more I have planned. But the foundation is there and I'm happy about everyone who gives it a try. If you have feedback, I'd love to hear it!

I'll be using this blog to share updates on Feedlane's development and dive into some of the technical details under the hood. If that sounds interesting, feel free to check back.
